The East Village is tenement country: five-story walk-ups, railroad apartments where you walk through one room to reach the next, bathrooms the size of a phone booth and a radiator that clanks at 6am. We love these apartments. They also need a cleaner who knows what they're doing.
What we clean in East Village
Tenement walk-ups
Avenue A to D and the side streets: 1900s buildings, four or five flights, small rooms, tin ceilings if you're lucky.
Railroad apartments
Rooms in a line with no hallway. Every room is a walkway, so floors take more traffic than the square footage suggests.
Newer infill buildings
Elevator rentals and condos on the avenues and along Houston, often with a virtual doorman and a package room.
What the dirt is like here
- Small bathrooms with no ventilation: grout, ceilings and shower curtains need a mildew check every visit.
- Steam radiators in every room, usually under a window, usually behind furniture; we move what moves and reach what doesn't.
- Dogs and cats are everywhere. We vacuum upholstery and under furniture for hair, and use pet-safe products by default.
- Fire-escape windows get street dust and pigeon grit; the sill gets a real wipe, not a dust.
Getting in: doormen, keys and COIs
Keys, lockboxes, buzzers and neighbors. Very few doormen. We'll text when we're on the way, when we arrive, and when we're done, and send a photo summary, so you don't have to be there to know it happened.

Do you clean walk-ups and pre-war apartments?
They're most of what we do. Radiators, crown mouldings, original hardwood and old tile all need different handling than a new build; our pre-war cleaning guide explains how we approach them.
Are your products safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Our default products are non-toxic and fragrance-light. Pets are welcome to stay home; just let us know at booking so your cleaner knows who to expect.
Do I need to be home during the clean?
No. Most clients give us a key, a lockbox code or leave keys with the doorman. Your cleaner texts you when they're on the way, when they arrive and when they're done, and you get a photo summary at the end.
How much does a cleaning cost?
Flat rates by apartment size: studio and 1-bedroom from $175, 2-bedroom from $225, 3-bedroom from $275, and a custom quote for 4+ bedrooms.
